The British Model Flying Association (BMFA) represents 36,000  members and more than 840 affiliated clubs.

The BMFA provides its members with a range of benefits including six editions of the BMFA NEWS magazine each year, a comprehensive Members Handbook and insurance covers (both legal liability and personal accident cover).
The BMFA organises a range of National Championship Events throughout the year, commencing with the Indoor Scale Nationals in April and the Free Flight Nationals & Space Modelling Nationals in May. The Radio Control, Control Line & Scale Nationals is one of the largest model flying competitions in Europe and is held along with the Silent Flight Nationals over the August bank holiday weekend each year.

The BMFA send British Teams to a variety of World and European Championships each year and achieve some notable successes. During 2011 Ken Morrissey FSMAE flying F2A (control line speed) at the European Championships held in Poland during July, broke the existing world record successively on each of his four flights, achieving a speed of 307.5 kph on his fourth flight over nine timed laps. His model’s Irvine 15 engine was running at over 40,000 rpm on the final fastest run helping Ken to become European Champion and bring home a Gold medal from the event. At the same event, Jamie Griffin brought home a Junior Bronze Medal flying in F2D (control line combat) and was placed 8th overall.
The BMFA continues to support the introduction of young people to air sport with a variety of education initiatives. A new competition aimed at schools will be launched in 2012 to complement the long running ‘University Heavy Lift Challenge’ event run at Elvington each June, which is now starting to attract an increasing international contingent.
